The main activity is the reproduction and maintenance of mouse stocks either of inbred strains or genetically engineered mice, such as transgenic and knockout mouse lines, or even chemically-induced mutants, which have been developed by the researchers of B.S.R.C. “Al. Fleming”. The mouse facility offers the following services: Supply of mouse lines - Supply of the most common inbred mouse strains used in biomedical research, such as C57BL/6J, 129SvEv, CBA, BALB/c,
- Supply of mouse models of common human diseases
Hosting & Handling of mice - Importation, hosting, reproduction and distribution of mutant mice upon request.
- Sample collection, such as tissues, blood, and urine, storage and shipment.
Support for external Scientists - Upon agreement BSRC Alexander Fleming’s Animal House provides the installations, personnel and mice models for research purposes to external scientists. For further details please visit the “Customers” tab.
γ-Irradiation  - γ-irradiation of mice for bone marrow transplantation experiments.
- γ-irradiation of cultured cell lines.
Veterinary Services - Animal procurement, such as organizing and handling of incoming and outgoing mouse shipments.
- Veterinary services, such as monitoring of the facility’s health status (sentinel-program, health reports, etc.), treatments, surgical interventions (vasectomy, ovariectomy, ovary transplantation), necropsy.
Consulting Services - Design and establishment studies of Animal House Units
- Animal Health & Diet Issues
- Troubleshooting of existing units
Please note that by the end of 2008 the mouse facility will operate according to ISO 9001, for its full range of services including the supply of mice. Additionally an application for AAALAC accreditation will have been submitted. |
