6th LAS Modules Course - July 06-10, 2026

• Course objectives

  • •A five-day intensive Course on laboratory animal science (LAS) is organized at the BSRC “Alexander Fleming”, in July 2026. The Course content includes the Core Modules and the Functions A, B, C, D Specific Modules, plus the additional Task Specific Module 20, as described in the Commission “Working Document on the development of a common education and training framework to fulfil the requirements under the Directive 2010/63/EU”.

  • The Modules represent the basic training for all personnel performing any of the Functions A-D of Article 23 (Directive 2010/63/EU) and Article 22 (P.D. 56/2013, national legislation). Completion of all Core Modules and Functions A, B, C, D Specific Modules is compulsory for staff performing procedures on animals (function A), designing procedures and projects (function B), taking care of animals (function C) or killing animals (function D). The theoretical component will be delivered live online via webinar (06–08 July 2026), followed by practical training conducted on-site at BSRC “Alexander Fleming” (09–10 July 2026).

  • Applications deadline:

    • 25/05/2026 for BSRC “Alexander Fleming” internal users.

    • 25/06/2026 for external users (registration fee: 50-200€).

• Specific Modules

  • Participants may attend specific Modules upon request, via the registration form.

    • Core Modules, July 06-07, 2026 (exams: July 08, 2026)

    • Function B, July 06-08, 2026 (exams: July 08, 2026)

    • Functions A, C and D, July 06-07 and 09-10, 2026 (exams: July 08 and 10, 2026)

    • Functions A, B, C and D, July 06-10, 2026 (exams: July 08 and 10, 2026)

  • For Function B, participants should hold an academic degree or equivalent in an appropriate scientific discipline.

• Assessment

• Full attendance is mandatory. Participants will be assessed through a multiple-choice exam upon Course (lectures) completion and hands-on assessment upon practical skills sessions completion. A pass-mark of 60% is required as an acceptable standard.

• Certification

  • Course certificates are issued after full attendance and a pass-mark of 60%.
